Library 101 or What to Do When Your Boss Sends You to the Library: An introduction to library services for administrative assistants and other support staff. Includes a tour of the library, using Ovid, PubMed and Albert (online catalog) to verify references, locating journal articles and/or book chapters, and requesting interlibrary loans.


Introduction to OvidSP : An overview of the Library's web interface to MEDLINE, PsycINFO, and additional databases, several of which include full-text. Special features will be highlighted.


OvidSP MEDLINE: Explore techniques for subject, author, journal searches, and more, using the new OvidSP interface. Special features, such as saving searches, ordering  interlibrary loans, exporting references to EndNote/Reference Manager/ Refworks will be highlighted.

Biomedical and Scientific Sources on the WORLD WIDE WEB: A class for those with prior experience in WWW searching.  Learn how to find biomedical/scientific information on the WWW by using medical search engines and medical megasites.  Find out about access to PubMed and electronic journals, and learn how to evaluate usefulness/authority of information found.


PubMed: Learn to use PubMed's basic and unique features such as Limits, Clipboard, My NCBI, Text Printing, and more.

Web of Science: Learn how to search Science Citation Index (SCI) and Journal Citation Reports (JCR) to find out who is citing your work or the work of others, and which journals have the highest impact factor in your field. Search interfaces for topic, author, source title, and address searching will be covered, as well as exporting results, saving searches, and setting up alerts.

Evidence-Based Medicine Searching on OvidSP: Learn techniques for searching MEDLINE that will help you find methodologically sound studies in clinical medicine and be introduced to several databases, including ACP Journal Club, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, and Dare.  For those with some experience using MEDLINE.

Find out how to create and organize a personal database, import references from a variety of databases, format bibliographies and manuscripts according to desired styles, and share your research with colleagues from any computer with Internet access (no sofware required).
