How to import citations into Reference Manager from commonly used databases: Ovid, ISI, PubMed

You may import search results from Ovid, ISI Web of Knowledge (including Current Contents Connect and Web of Science/Science Citation Index) and PubMed into a Reference Manager database.

There are two ways to do this in Ovid and ISI Web of Knowledge:

PubMed supports only saving and importing.

Exporting citations from OVID databases, including Medline, and PsycINFO

Using Direct Export:

  1. Reference Manager does not have to be open when you run your search.
  2. Run search as normal and review results.
  3. In the Results Manager indicate Results to save.
  4. Under Fields, select Complete Reference.
  5. Under Result Format, select Direct Export.
  6. Click Save.

    Ovid Results Manager

  7. Ovid opens a window offering two choices for exporting results.

  8. Ovid Export Screen

  9. Select Export results to Endnote, Procite, or Reference Manager. Click Continue.
  10. At the Select Reference Manager Database window, you may either choose to create a new database or add the new citations to a currently existing Reference Manager database.
  11. You may clear any previous import session. Those references will not be deleted from your database.
  12. Once the references are imported, they are appended to the database and appear in the Reference List, which has two tabs. One has the name of your database, and displays all the references. The other, labeled Imported, displays only the newly imported references.
